Training for the 8K
Monday, January 02, 2006
Eight thousand dollars? I wish. I am planning to run the Shamrock 8K race again this year. I should just step up and go for the half-marathon, but I just don't know if I can make that distance. After all, 8K is only abou 5 miles. That is less than half of the distance of a half-marathon(13.1 miles).
Hopefully, I will have better time this year. Last year's time was pretty sad(which is why I won't be mentioning it). About a month before last year's race I got the FLU and never fully recovered in time for the race. I felt healthy in time, but my knees were giving me a lot of trouble. I am just going to try and take the training slow this year and work my way up to about 6 mile training runs. I think that will give me plenty of endurance and help boost my time for the actual race.
My goal for this year is to finish in under 45 minutes. Ideally I would like to finish in under 40 minutes, but I am trying to be realistic. I have about 10 weeks left to train so here is my planned training schedule.
January
(Week 1 & Week 2) - 2 Miles, 2 times per week
(Week 3 & Week 4) - 3 Miles, 2 times per week
February
(Week 1 & Week 2) - 4 Miles, 2 times per week
(Week 3 & Week 4) - 5 Miles, 2 times per week
March
(Week 1 & Week 2) - 6 Miles, 2 times per week
(Week 3) - 6 Miles, 1 time
(Week 3, March 18th) Run race
This means I have 21 days worth of practice running to get ready. Anyone else want to run the Shamrock? Let's do it!
