Month #3, Week#1: A new appreciation
Monday, March 06, 2006
This was the first week that I have ever run 6 miles. I have a new appreciation for long-distance runners. It just seems so difficult to condition your body to run such long distances. I am burning about 120 calories per mile. So, if you do the math, that is about 720 calories per run. That is almost a third of an average diet for someone in my height and weight catergory.
Should I be eating more? I am not sure. I know I have lost a few pounds. Plus, I am not drinking beer or any alcohol while training (except on my Birthday). I have noticed that many pairs of my pants have some extra room in the waist now.
I only have one more week of official training. After that I may just try and do a couple of short runs to cut my pace time down. Either way, in just 11 days I will have to put all this training to the test. If I can hit 40 minutes for the Shamrock I will be completely satisfied. if I come it at 42-43 minutes, I can live with that but wont be as happy.
