The Reunion dilemma

Saturday, October 30, 2004

Apparantly 10 years has gone by since I graduated High School. Okay no biggie, except I feel kind of old now. I know that sounds lame, but think about it. 10 years ago I was in the prime of my youth and felt physically capable of anything. I never really thought I would ever get old. Somehow I believed that I would remain young in some regard forever.

Well, I am still pretty athletic and am young in many ways. However, it requires more motivation to make up for lack of energy, willpower to overcome complacency and caffeine to get out of the house at 6:30 in the morning. I know, "Quit your bitching, such is life".

Anyway, it was brought to my attention a few months back that my High School Reunion was coming up. I hadn't realy given much thought to whether I would go or not. My good friend Candice suggested I should go, and that it would be cool for me to see people I hadn't seen since High School.

[Problem]
1)
I live in Virginia and the reunion is in California
2) I thought until just recently that I would not be able to attend the actual reunion because I left mid junior year and graduated from another school.
3) It is now exactly one week away and I haven't really planned well for it.

Maybe these are not major problems but they are definintely obstacles. Since the reunion is on a Saturday I could actually fly out next friday night in time for the Reunion. I found out that since the high school is not actually responsible for putting on the reunion, I would be able to attend with no problem.

So, with all this being said, I have less than a week to make a decision as to whether or not I will be attending my 10 year High School Reunion.

Halloween is here again

Monday, October 25, 2004

Halloween is one of my favorite times of the year. It is funny, but I think I like it more now that I am older than I did when I was a kid. I like it for different reasons though. I really do miss dressing up. Since I have had kids I really haven't dressed up. Maybe a mask, but that is about it.

Halloween 2003Last year I went all out and decorated the front of the house with a corpse, fog machine, strobe lights, and custom tombstones(one day I want make these for other people too). I even had speakers in the windows for the added spooky music effect. It was really great.

The problem was that not a lot of kids came trick-or-treating through our neighborhood. I was kind of let down. Halloween seems much shorter now than when I was a kid. The kids and parents that did come by loved the decor though. That kind of made it worth it.

So, this year I decided not to decorate. Not that I don't want to. I just thought I would take a year off. Maybe next year I will come back in full force and scare the whole neighborhood. I decided maybe we should take the kids to see some family and go trick-or-treating with them.

Skyler and Gauge's pumpkinsSo what are we gonna do? Skyler is going to be Spiderman again. Gauge is going to be a Ninja Turtle(TMNT). I didn't want the Halloween spirit to be a total wash at our house so we did go out on Sunday and get some pumpkins to carve. I let Sky and Gauge pick what they wanted on their pumpkins. As you can see, Skyler's pumpkin has a slightly more intimidating look. Gauge's is happy without a nose.

To everyone out there, parents and kids alike, I hope you have a wonderful Halloween. Scare some kids for me.
